Fireworks :) :)

Fireworks :) :)

This passage is abt how my gr8 habit of reading books was reduced to "once upon a time I read books" and is making a phoenix like attempt at resurrection.

At the edge of the valley, with a thundering waterfall on one side and a mountain on the other, they stood with eyes locked on every move that the other person made, for one wrong step and the end was that much closer!!!

I was talking to one my friends the other day about reading books. She ( if you are reading this, you know who you are!!) was reading ‘Twilight’ under the pretext of understanding the contemporary culture. In her words, ‘ culture is anything that holds sway in the society at that moment. Good try but there is no escaping from the fact that she spent time of her life, yes precious time that could have been spent partying or drinking or watching movies or being numb or all of it at once, but reading twilight ain’t one on the list!!!!

Back to the subject, sitting there talking to her made me realise that I haven’t really read a book for a long time. In fact the harder I tried to remember the more I was reminded of how old I am!!!! Because the last book I remember reading cover to cover was the Bourne Identity! That was sometime in 2002-03. That’s a long hiatus by any standards. In fact in those 8 yrs not once had I thought about reading books. I think Internet corrupted me. There is so much available in video format and its so easy to just sit back and watch videos that the art of reading books was lost on me. In a weird turn of events a good habit from the teenage was lost to the 20s! or so I thought, untill the new yrs resolution (more like the yr end resolution) was drafted and based upon a quick facebook confluence of thoughts ( yes my friends are really into reading …. I had 37 replies within a day !!) I decided to take the plunge and ordered ‘The Templar Legacy’

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Templar-Legacy-Steve-Berry/dp/0340899255/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1322485039&sr=1-1

and ‘An Idiot Abroad’

http://www.amazon.co.uk/s/ref=nb_sb_noss?url=search-alias%3Dstripbooks&field-keywords=an+idiot+abroad&x=0&y=0.

One is a fictional thriller ( or so I hope ) and the other is a best seller comedy catalogue of the authors travels round the globe. I think these two books will gently ease me into the gr8 world of reading and based on how things go I might decide to gift myself a reading device for Christmas 2011 :)

I am currently reading ‘Tanamera’ suggested by my flatmate

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Tanamera-Hodder-Great-Reads-Barber/dp/0340938323/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1322485187&sr=1-1

have read the first 2 chapters and the story is shaping up well. If this blog generates any interest I will make it a point to update my trials and tribulations on the reading front :)
